The Rock & Rye @ Sweetwater

Described as New Orleans inspired cuisine, Rock and Rye is located at the infamous Sweetwater live music venue in Mill Valley. We went on a week night when we had tickets to a show, and sat outside on their large front patio with heat lamps. We were immediately greeted and shown to a table, and we were handed our menus.

Of course I had already viewed the menu online, and had seen one entree listed that was vegan (YAY!). However, the menu we were handed did not match the online menu- probably because they change things seasonally and have just not updated the online menu to reflect the change. I was pleased to see that they still had a vegan entree listed, as well as a vegan appetizer.

So, I ordered the Brussels sprouts appetizer, which had mushrooms, charred Brussels and a sweet and sour sticky glaze that was absolutely delicious! The vegan entree was a white bean stew with a bunch of random vegetables in it, including the odd addition of edamame. While my husband said “I worry that flexitarians will order this and never try another vegan dish again”…… I didn’t find it that reprehensible. Was it well thought out? Not really. Was it delicious? It was MEH. Was it healthy? It was healthy AF!!! But best of all…..it was VEGAN. I applaud Rock & Rye for just making the effort to include #ONEVEGANENTREE and I will be back as the seasonal menu changes.
