Insalata's
UPDATE August 28, 2022:
Came for lunch and was once again blown-away by the number of vegan options on the menu. The vegan entree of cous cous, lentils and tomato-stewed veggies was outstanding, filling, and packed full of protein. It is so easy to vegan-ize a bunch of other dishes here. Great service, too!
Original Review- March 10, 2022:
This Mediterranean staple in San Anselmo offers a wide variety of vegan selections in a big, warm room. I highly recommend a group meal that will satisfy everyone!
We started off with the mezze plate, which included falafel with tahini, hummus, smokey chickpeas, olives, cucumber, fennel and quinoa salad, sumac onions and za’atar spiced pita. The chickpeas were outstanding on this plate, but everything was really yummy.
We then tried the baharat spiced root vegetables with brussels sprouts, rutabaga, parsnips, crispy chickpeas, baharat, sesame, and hold the lime yogurt. While healthy and nourishing, the dish was a little MEH.
We then moved on to the eggplant fries. WOW. WOW WOW WOW. These are a can’t miss!
We ordered the Syrian fattoush salad with romaine lettuce, toasted pita, hold the feta cheese, onions, cherry tomatoes, olives, cucumber, cilantro, mint and a lemon vinaigrette. Fantastic salad. They nailed the spices and dressing. It would be SO cool if they offered this salad with Follow Your Heart Vegan Feta Crumbles as an alternative option.
We were so full that we didn’t get a chance to try the *nearly vegan entree: The middle eastern inspired vegetarian platter lemony lentils, curried spinach, roasted acorn squash, tomato-pistachio relish, couscous and hold the Turkish yogurt.
I look forward to returning to try it soon!
