King of the Roll
I love Japanese food. Love it. My very favorite cookbook is Vegan Japaneasy, and I cook Japanese food often. When I moved to Marin, a friend let me know that King of the Roll was a staple for her household, so I gave it a shot.
The restaurant has zero ambiance, so I prefer ordering to go, although they do have a back patio which could be nice on warmer days. They have a really large selection of vegan rolls, including the really incredible vegan Dragon Roll with eggplant, but sadly….their sushi rice is just terrible. It’s overcooked and just like paste. It’s why I stick with ordering all of their vegetable and tofu side dishes rather than their rolls.
They offer cucumber salad, seaweed salad, agedashi tofu, steamed broccoli, spinach salad, green salad and more little side dishes. Their tempura batter contains egg.
Basically, this is a great and affordable spot if you are craving some Japanese side dishes, or some so-so vegan sushi.
