Smiley's Saloon in Bo
Established in 1851, Smiley’s Saloon in Bolinas is supposedly the longest continuously running saloon on the West Coast. It has all of the magic you expect of West Marin, with a little salty kick. Their newly launched Coastal Cantina features dishes that “draw from the present day and historic Hispanic influence in West Marin.” Featuring local ingredients sourced from the area’s many farms, the restaurant serves food for omnivores and vegans alike.
Sadly, on the day I visited, they were out of the vegan tortilla soup, as well as the mole tofu. I guess there are just too many of us vegans out there for the kitchen to keep up! The second vegan protein available for tacos, bowls or burritos is soyrizo.
The vegan bowl I ordered ($13) was so chock full of flavorful and filling items, including quinoa and beans, I didn’t feel that I needed to add another protein ($5). It was delicious, healthy, and filling.
If you find yourself is the beautiful town of Bolinas any time soon, I highly recommend lunch or dinner here. Be sure to call ahead and check operating hours.
